Berlusconians / No Berlusconians

Silvio Berlusconi is a very special character in Italian politics. Who votes him, loves him as he is.
And those who would never vote for him?

Two different worlds, placed face to face in a collection of portraits.

“Berlusconians / No Berlusconians” is a self-published and handmade book that shows two very italian humanities. In addition to the photographs, there are quotations from Berlusconi, expressing his opinion about these two worlds.

Berlusconians/No Berlusconians was the first photobook that I self-published.

While I had the pages with the portraits printed on an HP Indigo (digital offset), I couldn’t get any printing place to print onto the brown and somewhat rough paper that I chose for the text. I finally printed this part of the whole edition with a cheap inkjet printer, refilling the cartridges with a syringe.

I printed the title with a stamp, mainly because I didn’t know how else to get the writing on the rather large sheet of paper that this binding technique (dos-à-dos) required.

The whole binding was done without using glue. A little disadvantage is though, that the book sometimes gets disassembled by people who want to understand the binding. In a bookshop that was selling this book I once found the Berlusconians half in one shelf and the No Berlusconians in another…

“Berlusconians / No Berlusconians” was exhibited as part of “The rise of populism in Europe”. Two copies of the book have been disassembled and hung up, creating new combinations between Berlusconians and No Berlusconians.

The book has also been part of the “AWAKE: Protest, Liberty and Resistance Reading Room”.
